On March 22nd this year Delphi engineers embarked on a close to 3,400 mile trip in their fully autonomous driving car named Roadrunner. The journey started in San Francisco, USA and traveled through California ending the journey in New York, and is very first road trip of its kind in the history of the world. Roadrunner was put through its paces on the 9 day journey which tested out the car in all types of elements, and on all types of terrain, through the mountains, in excessive heat and many of the environments people come across in urban driving such as traffic jams and construction works. Delphi was very excited to announce that the car performed exceptionally throughout the testing and no major issues were encountered during the test. This amazing road trip has concreted Delphi in the history of autonomous cars with America's first and longest coast to coast drive to be carried out by an autonomous car, starting out at Treasure Island in San Francisco and ending the center of New York City. Roadrunner first made its official appearance back in 2015 at CES and boasts some of the most advanced technology known to mankind. The car kits 6 long range radars, three vision based cameras, artificial intelligence and lots of cool advanced drive assistance systems. The success of this road trip will help pave the way to a more automated world, we already have automated technology emerging for homes and businesses, and now there seems to a boom in the autonomous car industry, with many other companies releasing concept and production cars. Elon Musk, co-founder of Tesla believes that in the not too distance future, human car driving will be illegal, and autonomous driving will be the safest and only way to drive, I fully agree with that, removing human error from anything is a positive. This is just another example of how technology is massively changing the world around, the future is no longer the future, the future is now, and I love every minute of watching it finally come to the attention of the general public.
